Why do I get thirsty?
Signed, Harry

Dear Harry:

Every part of your body -- your cells, your blood, your skin -- needs water. In fact, did you know that your body is 2/3s water?

You become thirsty when some of that water has left your body. How? Through your moist breath, for example. (If you want to see if your own breath is really moist find a cold mirror, come close and breath out.) And through perspiration. (Check it out next time you're playing soccer, especially in warm weather. Sweat can pour down your face.)

And through pee. (You probably don't need to check that.) When you pee, your body is getting rid of chemical wastes from your body. Water dilutes the waste, the water helps flush the stuff out of your body.

So--you need to replace all the fluid you use and that makes you thirsty. The bottom line is that your body will have a harder and harder time functioning if you don't take in lots of water every day. Ultimately, you'd probably shrivel like a prune!

So--the answer? Drink up! Every cell in your body will be grateful!

Signed,

Wendell
