I told my friend that I could keep my eyes open without ever blinking. My friend said everyone ends up blinking their eyes -- no matter whether they want to or not. Guess what? She's right!?! How come?

Charisse:

There are all sorts of things that your body does automatically -- like breathe, blink eyes... Sure, you can hold your breath or keep your eyes wide open -- for a while. But, eventually, your brain will cause you to take a big gulp of air or signal your eyes to blink -- no matter what. Be thankful. When you blink, your eyelids are sweeping across your eyes like automatic car windshield wipers. But instead of windshield fluid, there's tear fluid washing your eyes, keeping them clean and moist! So, tell your friend she's right. People blink automatically about 6 times a minute! And if there's something in your eyes, you may blink even more often.

Wendell
