Why are lips pink on girls and boys -- even without lipstick?
Signed, Carolee

Dear Carolee

You're going to love the answer to this one! Your lips are a different color from the rest of your face for one simple reason: lips aren't part of your face. They're really part of your throat and the inside of your mouth!

Believe it or not, lips are made of the same muscle and mucous membrane as the rest of your mouth. No wonder they're so pink or red! Gives you something to think about the next time you pucker up!

Signed,

Wendell
