Are any of your friends off at sleep-away camp? Or maybe you have a cousin killing time
in Kansas this summer. Freak them out with this peculiar postcard with an added lemon twist!
What you'll need:
- A pen cap or a pointy chopstick (be careful -- it'll be hard to see what you're writing if you
poke your eye out)
- A regular pen
- A bottle of lemon juice
- A blank postcard
What to do:
- Dip the pen cap or chopstick into the lemon juice and write your friend a message on the left
side of the postcard. When the juice dries, your writing will disappear!
- Now address the postcard with the real ink pen -- you want the postman to know where to
deliver it, don't you? If you think your friend is too clueless to know invisible ink when he/she
sees it, you might want to write a sentence at the bottom of the card like "Hey, hold this up to a
bare lightbulb to read my magic message!"
Why this happens:
The paper absorbs the lemon juice and natural light has a hard time reflecting
such a pale color as yellow. When you hold the card up to a light bulb, you shed light on the lemon
"ink."
