Spider's webs are wicked cool. Especially the really ornate round ones you can
sometimes find on a wet morning, when they are covered with dew. You can capture and preserve a
spider web pretty easily- just don't let the spider catch you while you're doing this. It works
best when the spider's away and her prey have stopped squirming...
What you'll need:
- talcum powder
- scissors
- hairspray
- dark-colored matte board or heavy construction paper
What to do:
When you find a web you'd like to catch, spray it thoroughly with the hairspray. Next,
sprinkle the talcum powder on the hairspray-coated web. Then, spray over the talc with hairspray a
second time. Finally, slide your piece of the dark-colored matte-board carefully behind the web and
catch the web flat on the paper so it sticks. It's almost impossible to get the web to fall
perfectly on the card, so don't worry if it gets a little uneven. To take it home, cut the strands
that connect the web and let it dry, flat, in a warm place.
