Sure your friends are cool, and they're probably pretty tough to fool. So when you tell
them you can roast a paper cup over a flame without setting it on fire, they're not likely to buy
it. Well, they're the ones who are gonna get burned when you successfully perform this fiery feat!
What you'll need:
- An adult -- where there's fire, there's danger so make sure you have some supervision for this
one.
- A campfire
- A paper cup
- Barbecue tongs
- Water
What to do:
Fill the paper cup with water and use the barbecue tongs to hold it over the campfire.
Watch as the flames engulf the cup and how it doesn't burn. Then check out the looks on your
friends' shocked faces!
Why this happens:
The reaction is due to a simple process called oxidation. Before the cup can burn, the
water must turn to steam. As long as the water does not evaporate, it absorbs the heat and the
paper will not catch fire!
